Are You What a Franchisor is Looking For?
I don’t know of one person who can say they got hired without trying. It’s a process. You apply, you interview, etc. If you want a job then you try everything in your power to show that company that you deserve it. So don’t think that if you are looking to invest in a franchise that you are going to be “hired” right off the bat.
Franchisors aren’t looking solely at your bank account. Although money does matter in this investment and franchisors need to know if potential applicants have the funding available, other credentials include personal qualities like competitive drive, intuition and personality. There are interviews, evaluations and quizzes that can reveal your potential to the franchisor. Many franchisors have key criteria that they evaluate in each applicant.
- Are you a “people person?” Do you have experience in interacting with the public or working in groups with other co-workers?
- Are you a self-starter? Are you motivated and independent?
- Do you mesh well with the corporate philosophies? If the philosophies are honesty and integrity, do you represent those qualities?
- Are you willing to take advice and accept direction? Are you ready for the realities of your industry whether that means long hours or dealing with customers and employees?
These are only a few qualities that a franchisor might look for. Other qualities that impact a decision include neatness, organizational skills, enthusiasm, skills and aspirations. Franchisors are not one-sided in their decisions. They look for potential applicants to have a business mind but also a creative mind. And it may not be an easy process. You must sell yourself to that franchisor. Convince them that you are a good risk to take; show them that you can succeed, and they will take a chance with you.
