A Balancing Act

The number of women entrepreneurs continues to grow significantly. Even women, who are also mothers, have found success as business owners by finding a balance between work and motherhood.
Women can strive for success as both a businesswoman and as a mom. Here are a few tips to help do so.
Keep a schedule and stay organized. Whether it’s a digital or paper organizer, use some sort of planner to keep track of your work and personal life. Staying organized from the start will save you time in the long run.
Make your own hours. One of the perks to owning your own business is that you are your own boss and are not constrained by the typical “9 to 5” hours. Set up your daily schedule by prioritizing things that need to be done during traditional business hours and realizing that things that don’t require direct contact (e-mails, reading and other office tasks) can be done at any time.
Keep your family involved. Work with your family and choose your priorities. Let your children feel a part of your work by letting them help with small tasks, or finding ways to keep young children busy throughout the day by setting up a child’s work station in your office.
Schedule “you” time. Constantly worrying about your work and family will leave you stressed our and overwhelmed. Make time for yourself to unwind or enjoy your favorite activity. Work longer a few days of the week in order to give yourself a day off and refresh.
Don’t fall behind. Always stay one step ahead by planning in advance for each day.
Take time at the end of each day to organize things for the next day, whether it’s packing lunches for the kids or clearing your office space. Your mornings will be less chaotic, which will help jumpstart a productive day.
Most importantly, don’t get sidetracked. Don’t get lost in one area that you begin neglecting the other. Keep your priorities in line. Neglecting either priority will create unnecessary struggles. Learning how to balance your work and family life will help create a successful entrepreneur.
